License fee changes in 2025
What changes will be made to radio license fees from May 1, 2025, in connection with the amendment to the law?
Households
The radio license fee for households will newly be CZK 55 per month from May 1, 2025.
Individuals will pay CZK 55 per month for their household from May 1, 2025. The obligation of only one payment of the fee per household remains in force, regardless of how many members are in the household or how many radio receivers are owned. Similarly, the payment of the radio license fee is not linked to the property or the permanent address of the taxpayer, but directly to the taxpayer (first name, last name, and date of birth).
The new law expands the definition of devices that qualify as radio receivers and thereby expands for whom the obligation to pay the license fee applies. In addition to traditional radios and televisions, qualifying devices now also include mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and computers with an internet connection.
Do you pay by bank transfer? What will change for you?
If you are a taxpayer who pays the fee directly to the Czech Radio account, you will need to adjust your standing order in your banking system and change the amount accordingly based on the frequency of payment:
- monthly: CZK 55
- quarterly: CZK 165
- half-yearly: CZK 330
- annually: CZK 660
You can check the status of your records and payments online in your taxpayer account, where you can also make some changes to your records.
Do you pay via SIPO?
If you pay your radio license fee via the Czech Post's SIPO service, the amount of your payment will automatically change to CZK 55 on May 1, 2025. If you have a direct debit authorization for SIPO payments, you will need to check your direct debit limit to ensure that all payments from May onwards are processed without any problems.
Legal entities and self-employed persons
Are you a legal entity or a self-employed person? Then you should report the number of employees and the number of leased vehicles to Czech Radio between May 1, 2025, and June 30, 2025. Based on this information, you will start paying the radio license fee on July 1, 2025.
Legal entities and self-employed individuals will pay a radio license fee based on the number of employees and leased vehicles from July 1, 2025. At the same time, the definition of devices that are radio receivers will be expanded for these individuals. In addition to traditional radios and televisions, qualifying devices now also include mobile phones, laptops, and computers with an internet connection.
The radio license fee is no longer payable by:
- employers with fewer than 25 employees,
- associations within the meaning of Section 214 of Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code,
- employers employing more than 50% of persons with disabilities in accordance with the wording of Section 78 of Act No. 435/2004 Coll., on employment, as amended.
Please note: If you fall into the group of legal entities and natural persons engaged in business that are no longer required to pay the radio license fee, you must also notify Czech Radio of this fact! To do so, use the online form in your taxpayer account or your data box.
